On May 15, the Riesa campus of the Duale Hochschule Sachsen welcomed a special guest lecture titled “International Climate Policy – in Riesa?!”. Max Schmidt, a climate policy professional and a native of Riesa, shared his career journey and experiences in international climate negotiations with students and faculty.
Schmidt talked about how he left Riesa to work abroad, including his involvement in several UN Climate Change Conferences. He also emphasized the significance of the ERASMUS programs in shaping his professional development.
The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session where students asked questions about climate finance, international cooperation, and career opportunities. Prof. Dr. Frank Thunecke was also present to give information on ERASMUS+ and studying or working abroad. For many in the audience, Max Schmidt’s story was a powerful reminder that meaningful change and meaningful careers can start right here at home.
Special thanks to Alexander Buchheim for helping organize the event, and Cansu Citil for her support in organizing and moderating.
